Momentum SpaceAn antivirus knowledge base for Australian readers

Disclosure

Affiliate disclosure

Effective date: 22 September 2026

The complete account of how Momentum Space earns money, what that pays for, and precisely which parts of this site it shapes.

The arrangement

Momentum Space takes part in an affiliate referral programme for Surfshark. Links on this site that point to Surfshark Antivirus carry an identifier for this publisher. When a reader follows one of those links and goes on to buy a subscription, Surfshark pays Moment stav s.r.o. a percentage of that sale.

Three things follow, and they are the three that matter to a reader.

  1. The links are paid. Every link on this site that goes to Surfshark is an advertising link, and each one carries a note saying so immediately next to it. None of them is presented as a neutral recommendation.
  2. Surfshark pays, not you. The commission comes out of the vendor's revenue. Your price is the vendor's own price, set by Surfshark, and it is not increased because you arrived from this site. Momentum Space never charges a reader anything and never handles a payment.
  3. It buys scope, not wording. The commission is the reason one product is covered individually here. It does not change what any entry says, and Surfshark does not review, approve or comment on pages before they are published.

What actually determines the coverage

An honest narrow scope is more useful than a claimed breadth that does not exist, so here is the real basis for what appears on this site.

The product entry exists because of the commercial relationship. Surfshark Antivirus has an individual entry because Surfshark pays a commission. No other product has one. This site is not a market survey and does not claim to have evaluated the field.

The seven concept entries are written independently of it. What antivirus software is, how detection works, what each operating system permits, what scanning means for privacy, how to compare products, and the glossary are written from operating system documentation, vendor documentation, published testing methodology and material from Australian public bodies. No vendor influences them, and they would read the same if the referral arrangement ended tomorrow.

What is unknown stays unknown. The product entry contains a list of things this publisher cannot verify — price, feature detail, detection performance, refund terms — instead of filling those gaps. A commission is not a reason to write with more confidence than the evidence allows.

Technical detail, because readers reasonably want to know what happens when they click.

  • Every affiliate link on this site points directly to the advertising destination. The address is visible in the browser's status bar on hover, and it is the same address for every visitor.
  • No link passes through a redirect on this domain. There is no tracking path, no cloaking and no intermediate page.
  • Nothing about a link is assembled or rewritten by JavaScript. The only script on this site handles the menu and the accordions and never touches a link.
  • Affiliate links open in a new tab and carry the sponsored and nofollow attributes, which is how search engines are told the link is a paid placement.
  • No page on this site redirects automatically, and there is no interstitial, pop-up or exit prompt anywhere on it.

What the site does not do to track you

This is the other half of the disclosure. Momentum Space sets no cookies, runs no analytics, carries no conversion pixel or advertising tag, and uses no localStorage or sessionStorage. No consent banner appears because there is nothing to consent to. The site cannot tell whether any individual reader followed a link.

What happens after a click is a matter between the reader and Surfshark. Following an affiliate link takes you to Surfshark's own site, where Surfshark's privacy policy, cookie practices and terms apply, not ours. The vendor's systems are what attribute a sale to this publisher, and that attribution happens on their side. The privacy policy and the cookie policy describe everything this site does.

The limits of what independence can mean here

A site funded by a commission on one product cannot honestly describe itself as independent of that product, and this one does not. What it can do is be specific about the incentive, keep the general material free of it, and leave the reader able to check.

Concretely: no entry states that the product is the best, the safest or the right choice for any reader. The product entry includes a section on what to do if you decide against it, including using the protection already built into your operating system and consulting the free, vendor-neutral guidance published by the Australian Cyber Security Centre. The comparison entry is a method a reader applies to any product, not an argument for this one.

The Australian context

The Australian Consumer Law prohibits misleading or deceptive conduct in trade or commerce, and that obligation falls on a publisher making claims as much as on the advertiser whose product is described. The ACCC administers it. Disclosing a commercial relationship plainly, in the place where the advertising appears, is part of meeting that obligation and is why the disclosure on this site appears in the upper part of the homepage, beside every affiliate link, and on this page, rather than in a footer line.
